COVID Liability Protection – Update

As the Wisconsin Senate and Assembly begin the 2021-22 legislative session this week, one issue of continued importance to the business community is COVID-19 liability protection for businesses, nonprofits, schools and others from frivolous lawsuits. For several months, the Alliance has joined with a coalition of other stakeholders asking the Wisconsin legislature and Governor Evers to enact a strong liability shield that is easy to access and maintain.

Today, the Assembly Committee on Health will hold a hearing on Assembly Bill 1 – a COVID bill that contains liability language to create protections for businesses and schools who are good actors during this pandemic. The bill protects entities from frivolous lawsuits provided they did not act recklessly, wantonly, or intentionally spread COVID-19. The Alliance supports the language in this bill and will continue to advocate on behalf of businesses, nonprofits, schools and others.
