Wisconsin Opportunity Zone legislation signed into law

On Tuesday, March 3, Governor Evers signed AB 532, now 2019 Wisconsin Act 136, to enhance the federal Opportunity Zone program in the state of Wisconsin. The Alliance joined the Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA) to advocate in support of the bill. Under the Opportunity Zone program, low-income community census tracts were used to determine eligible Opportunity Zones to ensure private investment is directed to economically distressed communities. By doubling the Opportunity Zones capital gains tax reduction at the state level for individuals who invest in Wisconsin Opportunity Zone projects, AB 532 will encourage Wisconsin investors to keep their wealth in Wisconsin to help create inclusive economic opportunities in both urban and rural communities.
