The Waukesha County Business Alliance is actively advocating for the expansion of I-94 from Highway SS to the Waukesha County line, a critical infrastructure project for the County. While the project was briefly included in the state budget, a gubernatorial veto means the next step is through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Transportation Projects Commission (TPC) process.
On September 2, the Alliance announced a coalition of 20+ businesses, organizations other stakeholders who support studying the expansion of I-94 in western Waukesha County.
Currently, the highway narrows from three to two lanes in each direction, causing congestion, increased travel times, and higher crash rates. According to WisDOT, this segment carries an average of 75,000 vehicles per day, a traffic level that is unsafe and inefficient.
There continues to be rapid regional growth along this corridor, from Oconomowoc through to Jefferson County. Between residential growth and corporate expansion and investment, this is a critical corridor that will continue to grow. Advancing a study for I-94 expansion in western Waukesha County is a smart, high-impact move that will strengthen Wisconsin’s economy for decades to come.
