Advocating to expand Youth Apprenticeship in Wisconsin

Governor Evers signed AB 72 / SB 72 into law as Act 171 on March 3, 2020. The Alliance’s Education Policy Committee advocated for the bill, which expands Youth Apprenticeship (YA) programs in Wisconsin to include all 16 career clusters.

YA gives high school juniors and seniors opportunities to work in targeted fields while obtaining the education they need to pursue the field upon high school graduation. All employers need access to the DWD Youth Apprenticeship program as an option to build a pipeline of interested individuals to fill open positions in the short and long term. Wisconsin’s Youth Apprenticeship program has proven to be both popular and extremely beneficial for students and employers. The Alliance is proud to have supported this legislation on behalf of Waukesha County employers.
