Established in 1957, Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin was founded to provide a place where older men and women could live with confidence, independence, security and dignity.  Our mission has not changed.  Today, we provide quality residential retirement communities, services, resources and information to senior adults and their families. 

In 1968, Avalon Manor opened its doors to begin a tradition of service to older adults that spans more than 40 years.  In 1997, HELPMATES Community Senior Services began providing personal care and homemaker companion assistance to seniors in their homes in Waukesha County.  In 2001, Kirkland Crossings Senior Living Community in Pewaukee opened to provide residential townhomes and apartments for seniors.  In 2003, Avalon Manor became Avalon Square as it expanded into an entire city block of senior housing and services and retail shops in downtown Waukesha. 

Currently, we serve over 350 residents in our two Waukesha County communities.  In addition we serve nearly 150 clients who are able to remain in their homes with the assistance of Optage (formerly HELPMATES) and nearly 70 Community Connections members participate in our fitness and wellness programs.  

 
As an anchor in Waukesha’s central business district, Avalon Square gives seniors the opportunity to live within walking distance of restaurants retail shops, parks, cultural activities churches, a variety of services and a beautiful river walk.

• All faiths are welcome. As a not-for-profit, we are dedicated to an ecumenical focus that reflects the diversity and individuality of the spirit. Our chaplain provides regular Sunday morning services, individual support and a variety of programs that feed the spirit.
• There are 68 independent senior apartments.  Some of the spacious 1 and 2- bedroom apartments have fireplaces. Seniors enjoy an active lifestyle with numerous social, physical, intellectual and spiritual programs provided by our Activities and Wellness staff.
• We offer 48 private assisted living apartments with a menu of personalized care and service options to choose from.  Chef prepared meals, housekeeping service and full access to the diverse recreational and wellness opportunities are included.
• Our continuum of care environment features 27 specialty care apartments that serve physically fail and memory impaired senior adults.
• Our residents have full use of our 3,000 square foot fitness facilities, a personalized, confidential fitness-assessment and individual program from professionally trained staff.
• Through a month-to-month Community Connections’ membership, seniors in the community can participate in the many wellness programs that our residents enjoy.
• Residents and community connection members can exercise their mind in a state-of-the-art active learning center and a full-range of brain fitness programs and activities facilitated by volunteers and Carroll College physical therapy students.
